Initially trained in biology, my research first focused on the evolution of linguistic diversity from a perspective combining linguistic anthropology and molecular phylogeny. My work alternated between epistemological inquiries into these fields’ encounters and missed opportunities; evaluations of methodologies for linking genetic, anthropological and linguistic data into synthetic scenarios of human settlement and applied hybrid methodologies (in the case of Arabic dialects, Sinitic languages and the Afro-Asiatic language macro-family). As part of the EoL-DiaDM project [Evolution of Languages – Diachronic Data & Models, 2007-2010], I also supervised the construction of a collaborative platform of data and models for the trans-disciplinary exploration of languages’ evolution.

Parallel to this research, I have been training since 2011 in several contemplative and somatic modalities, with a focus on their applications in community psychology and collective trauma healing. In 2018, I joined the Centre Norbert Elias to thematically reorient my research on the topic of these practices’ globalization in the context of social and environmental activism. Combining a practitioner, facilitator and researcher perspectives, I am interested in the tensions existing between the global economy of well-being through which these practices have spread worldwide and the local contexts of contestation that co-opt them; and in the reciprocal reformulations that occur with the emergence of the notions of embodied/somatic activism and awareness-based action.

I also accompany the question of mediation (between disciplines or between practice circles) with an exploration of the multi-modal forms of writing and participation that can facilitate it and that involve artistic and/or contemplative approaches. In this line of work, I have set up and coordinated the aural writing axis of the Fabrique des écritures since 2019, facilitated workshops at the Centre Norbert Elias and Aix-Marseille University, and participated to the first sound documentaries produced by the Fabrique, either as a co-author with Stéphanie Fonvielle of De silences et d’eau fraîche (2020), or assisting Raphaël Botiveau in the editing of Comme une guerre qui ne finissait jamais (2020). In 2019-2020, I also participated to the creation of puppet theater piece Conversation avec nos ancêtres with Katy Deville (director) and Virginie Gaillard (performer) from the Théâtre de Cuisine [Official selection at MIMA #31 (Contemporary Puppetry Festival) and En Ribambelle #6 (Puppetry and Object Theater and Arts Festival)]. Finally, I am coordinating the Fabrique’s participation in the COESO European project [2021-2023] through a work-package articulating trans-modal writing and citizen science.
