Culture et Musées publishes research on the audiences, institutions and mediations of culture. It is the successor to Publics et Musées (1992-2000), the first scientific journal of museology in France, whose mission was to present the research results, studies and experiments inspired by the consideration of audiences in museum institutions. The journal is aimed at professionals, researchers and students, as well as all those interested in how museums and culture are evolving today.
Culture et Musées is published under the editorship of Eric Triquet and Isabelle Brianso (Centre Norbert Elias Centre/Avignon University), in partnership with the publishing department at Grenoble Alpes University (UGA Éditions). The publication is supported by the Centre Norbert Elias, the Directorate-General of Heritage (Department of Audience Policy at the Ministry of Culture and Communication), the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region and the CNRS-InSHS (Institut des sciences humaines et sociales).
Since 2018, the journal has been published exclusively in digital format.
