Christine M. Jacobsen, professeure d’anthropologie à l’Université de Bergen en Norvège, est spécialiste des questions de migration et de diversité. Elle est actuellement à Marseille dans le cadre des projets PROTECT (Research on refugees’ right to international protection) et WAIT (« Waiting for an uncertain future: the temporalities of irregular migration »). Elle est aussi membre de l’Institut Convergence Migrations.

Entangled temporalities and im/mobilities: the case of ‘migrants waiting for regularisation’
The time has for long been a crucial research topic in anthropology and other social sciences, but its importance for examining international migration has only more recently drawn attention in a field otherwise dominated by spatial approaches. In this lecture, I draw on long term ethnographic fieldwork in Marseille to discuss the multiple, relational, uneven, and entangled temporalities of so-called irregular migration. Taking as my point of departure the suggestion made by one of my interlocutors to refer to her and others in her situation as ‘migrants waiting for regularisation’, I zoom in on the production and experience of ‘waiting’, its diverse temporal dimensions, and the temporal navigations it engenders.
